Ashtavakra Gita 1.4
You are the eternal witness — live happily
न त्वं देहो न ते देहो भोक्ता कर्ता न वा भवान्। चिद्रूपोऽसि सदा साक्षी निरपेक्षः सुखेन जीव॥
You are not the body, nor does the body belong to you. You are neither the doer nor the enjoyer. You are pure consciousness — the eternal witness. Free of all expectation, live happily.
What this verse points to
The instruction arrives in the fourth verse of the text, with no preparation and no graded path. Ashtavakra tells Janaka what he is and then tells him to live happily, as though the second follows immediately from the first.
The closing phrase, "free of all expectation, live happily," is easy to skip past. The text treats cheerfulness as a consequence of correct seeing rather than a separate attainment.

About the Ashtavakra Gita
A dialogue between the sage Ashtavakra and King Janaka that dispenses almost entirely with practice and preparation, addressing the student as already free. It is among the most uncompromisingly non-dual texts in the tradition — where other scriptures prescribe a path, it mostly removes the assumption that one is needed.
